The intelligent world runs on batteries. Billions of sensors, in our buildings, hospitals and supply chains, each waiting for a battery someone has to find and replace. The sensor is cheap. The battery is the cost, the waste, and the reason so much of it never scales.
But the cleanest power is already in the room: the light that is on anyway. Ordinary solar was never built to use it. We were.
EdgeLight is a single module, the size of a credit card, that harvests indoor light, stores it without a battery, and runs its own intelligence, deciding for itself when to sense, send or sleep. Four parts from four suppliers, collapsed into one. No battery. No maintenance. A sensor that runs on light alone, indefinitely.

FOUNDERS & TEAM
Marina Freitag — Founder & CEO. Marina invented the chemistry at the heart of BerryCells and holds the world record for turning indoor light into power. A materials and device scientist at Newcastle University and a Royal Society University Research Fellow, she leads the SOLARIS theme on self-powered AI at the EPSRC National Edge AI Hub.
Sascha Feldmann — Chief Science Officer. Sascha runs the Laboratory for Energy Materials at EPFL and was a Rowland Fellow at Harvard, after a Cambridge physics PhD studying how charge carriers move through next-generation solar materials. Forbes named him among its 30 Under 30, and Chemical & Engineering News selected him for its 2025 Talented 12.
Timo Neumann — Chief Financial Officer. Timo earned his physics PhD at Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory, studying the spin and quantum behaviour of next-generation semiconductors, work that demands precision about what the data really says. He brings that same discipline to how BerryCells funds and scales.
Richard Freitag — Chief Technology Officer. Richard has been part of BerryCells since before it had a name. He built the outreach that put the science into people's hands and turned a lab result into something anyone could see and understand, and now helps turn that science into product.
HOW WE CAME TOGETHER
It started with a record nobody else could beat. Marina had spent years turning indoor light into power with copper chemistry, and had pushed it further than anyone in the world. But she knew a record-breaking solar cell was not the same as a product, and the missing pieces lived in the heads of people she had crossed paths with in the same small world of next-generation materials.
So she called them. Sascha, who had gone from Cambridge to Harvard to running his own lab at EPFL, understood light and charge at a level almost no one does. Timo had taken the same Cambridge path through the physics of these materials and brought the discipline to match. Richard had been there from the very start, the one who could take the science out of the lab and put it in people's hands.
Four people who had each spent a decade on different corners of the same problem, now in one room, building the thing none of them could have built alone. That is BerryCells.
